Should I port my 6085 heads?

I bought an engine for my car but I didn't have money for the entire intake, so it's kind of crippled right now. It's a 350 /w 6085 heads, LT4 Hot Cam, SLP 1 3/4 headers and a Superram base. I'm going to install the rest of the SR soon (wish I could go MR but emissions prevent it) but I'm not sure if while I have the intake apart I should just take the heads off an port them, since I can drive my other car in the mean time. Do you think it would be worth it? I wish I could have gotten the AFR 190's but money was an issue.

Thanks

If you know what you're doing, definitely port your heads and your intake.

Use this as a guide: http://www.sa-motorsports.com/

Should I just match the ports or can I "hog them out" so they flow as well as the AFR 190's?

Actually you don't want to hog them out.
What you want is to smooth and blend.
Follow the guide lines in the above link.
That will give you most improvement, going to far on hogging out might ruin them.
Just remember-just because some is good doesn't meen a whole lot more is better.

Yea which is why so many people make huge mistakes buying cams

I can't think of a single head ever made where porting to some degree didn't help

SO GET TO WORK!

I would recommend not porting your Edelbrock heads. Perhaps port matching them to your intake, but chances are your intake ports are smaller than the cylinder heads. If I recall, Edelbrock heads are alreay sized to a felpro intake gasket.

They already come with stainless polished 2.02/1.60 valves, multi angle seat, etc. I also expect the shape of the port is optimal for the port size.

Unless you have access to a flow bench and know how to use it, I doubt there is much gain to be achieved, rather there is more to loose.

Perhaps a call to Edelbrock might offer some advice on what areas could be inproved to match your engine combination.

One word of advice. What looks good, does not always flow well.

Mark.
