help with dissy installation

hi could anyone help me installing my hei distributor i removed it and silly me didnt mark the position of rotor so now i have no clue where tdc is etc could anyone please get me out of this mess! hope to hear from someone soon thanks.

I'll assume that you haven't pulled the wires off the distributor cap.

Pull plug #1 and crank the engine (bumping the starter) and put you finger on the spark plug hole and feel for compression. Look for the timing mark to get close to TDC. Now install the distributor with the rotor pointing toward plug wire #1. The rotor will rotate as you push the distributor in position (cam gear mesh), so account this into rotor position.

The distributor may not fully seat. That is because the bottom of the distributor hasn't meshed with the oil pump drive. With the distributor almost in place, bump the starter until the distributor seats.

Install the distributor hold down and cap. Now start the car and set timing.

Next time if you are gonna pull the distributor, bump the engine to TDC #1 to avoid the above procedure.
