Water Injection

Has anybody checked out water/alcohol injection sites like this one and have any real opinion on it. Please take a look and let me know your thoughts.

Re: Water Injection

just read the overview there. I almost drowned in the utter piles of BS they were shoveling on me.

I especially liked the atomizing of water and air to combine with fuel to make an explosive mixture!"

Water injection is used to _cool_ and retard the explosiveness of air and fuel. Not make it better, water does not contribute any energy towards combustion. It's used on some high performance, high stress engines to keep the immense heat from pre-combusting the air/fuel mixture.

If you really want to see the effect of water in the combustion process of a normal engine (not an airplane engine that produces more heat than the fuel can handle prior to reaching the cylinders), just fill up at any place using 10% ethanol mixed in. There's already plenty of water in the fuel that will get atomized and mixed with the air at the injector and it costs nothing extra.

Re: Water Injection

In fact, i'm surprised nobody has started posting about putting dry ice under the intake to super-cool the air charge. At least that is a usable (and cheap) method to actually make more power.

Exactly. Water injecton is mostly used on boosted engines where intercoolers wont fit on the setup. Its used to cool the air and help against spark knock. I dont see how it would work on a n/a engine, especially w/o a custom tune to maybe take advantage of any timing you might beable to gain.

Re: Water Injection

Water injection would be useful for cleaning carbon deposits and problems with pre-ignition but thats it. Better mileage? Thats funny.

Re: Water Injection

I really like the parts where they start talking about "hydrogen rich bubbles" and crap. So now your engine has used it's magic powers to seperate the water molecules. Right up there with the Tornado. Electric turbos websites are more believable than this crap.

If you want to clean carbon deposits and such by water injection, just use fuel with alcohol mixed in, like E10 or such, plenty of water in the alcohol to provide any such benefits, if those benefits exist at all. There's really no need to inject even more water.

Re: Water Injection

Water does an excellent job of cleaning carbon in a running engine, not much question there.

Using any of the ethanol/gasoline blends is not an option in California. There might be 1 gas station somewhere in the whole state selling e85, but I don't have a clue where it is.

Re: Water Injection

Yeah, water is a product of combustion. I don't see how that could add in making more power. Sounds like bs to me.

Re: Water Injection

Don't put e-85 in your car for the love of god. he said e-10. Most gas stations already have that in all 50 states..

Thats what I had figured but I figured we could all use some amusement about all the stuff like these companies try to push and convince you that it is the best.

Re: Water Injection

Ive been using one from snow performance for a little while, and people have some misconceptions about it. Personally i like it, and use it alot. Mine works off a vac switch. It doesnt kick in until around 3000. The mixture itself is from snow performance.(boost juice). The mixture isnt really flammable in a cup , but sprayed in a fine mist , fireball. Ill try and get some pics up of how i have it setup. Originally i was skeptical to, I got it as a extra safety net when im on the spray. But it works just fine off the bottle to.

wow i just went to that site that does look like garbage, nothing like i got.

Re: Water Injection

if what you have is sprayed, then it's nothing like what the thread is about. This has to do with using elecrolysis to create a hydroxyl gas mixture that is flammable. What you are talking about is something completely different.

Just so you know. Gasoline isn't a really flammable liquid either. The vapor however will burn quite nicely (gasoline has no oxygen, but the vapor is mixed quite nicely with it)
