Re: toogle switch underdash 1986 irocz

Nah, it's not the injectors. They're either open or closed, and the computer controls that.

It's possible it could be some sort of dual prom selector. Kinda like a valet mode and a "normal" mode. ....but technically, since it's custom, ANYTHING is possible. Where do the wires go???

....Ironically however, I too have a toggle switch in the same spot, but of course I installed it and I know what it does. I have it wired to the brake switch so my torque converter won't lock up for around town driving. When off (or on, depending how you look at it) the TC doesn't lock, and I get a good 200 RPMs higher due to no lock up.

Re: toogle switch underdash 1986 irocz

well i followed the wire threw the firewall but it comes out in a bundle of wires and it not easy to get to. but i get about a 5 to 6 hundred rpm increase.

Re: toogle switch underdash 1986 irocz

try jumping like 5 cars , flip the switch right before you do it . if you make it , it is turbo boost , if you dont it is something else but probably wont matter at that point .

Re: toogle switch underdash 1986 irocz

The most common things to control by a switch in theese cars are
- FAN
- TCC

and since your rpm is changing I guess its a tcc switch, try to ground the "F" on your ALDL to see if you get the same effect.

This is a complete guess but could it change fuel pressure or change the timing?

Re: toogle switch underdash 1986 irocz

I got 5 bucks says it's a switch to turn on the AC compressor. It's actually the "off" position causing the increase in power.

Indy86iroc, try taking a look at the compressor and switching positions of the toggle switch, and see if the compressor turns on or off. Car running of course

The technology IS certainly out there for that option, but highly unlikely. If it was a custom built show car, or a high end car, maybe, but not likely on a thirdgen.

I got 5 bucks says it's a switch to turn on the AC compressor. It's actually the "off" position causing the increase in power.
Why make a switch? Just turn of the AC, right? -Either way, the OP says he's getting "alot" more power with the switch on (or off). The AC compressor wouldn't do that much. You "might" feel a difference in the seat of your pants when the air is on/off although I doubt it, but either way, not enough to call "alot" and it still doesn't account for the higher RPMs.

....I'm still really curious myself, but my money is still on the Torque converter lock up!

Re: toogle switch underdash 1986 irocz

I have a switch in that same spot that controls one of my fans. Like others have said track it down and find out where the wire goes. Does your car have some sort of aftermarket coil or spark system?

Let us know.
