TPIS Big Mouth Base

What makes this base so special, and why is it called a big mouth base. I am sitting here comparing it to my stock base and the intake ports measure the same size, so do the runner openings. Whats up with that, and also it doesn't look like it has all this extra room for porting over the stock base.

Am I missing something here

Either your on crack or you just got ripped off! The TPIS base is so much larger than stock! How can you not tell the difference? If your base doesn't have TPIS cast into it, then it's a stocker. Don't take this the wrong way, I just can't believe you can't tell the difference!

I am pretty sure I am not smoking crack. The intake is for sure a TPIS and it is cast into the base. I also have a stock one as well that has GM cast into it. What I am saying is that when I measured the intake and runner port openings they are the same dimentions as the stock base. It seems inside that it opens up and has a larger volume, but the ports aren't any bigger.

If I am wrong about this, I would be interested in knowing what the dimentions of the intake and runner ports are for both the stock and TPIS intake

The ports are THE SAME SIZE because the base is casted for the STOCK heads. They WOULD HAVE MADE THE PORTS LARGER if you had asked them, or told them what type of aftermarket heads you are using. Also, the base runners are at a more direct angle to deliver air from the intake runners, through the baserunners, to the heads.

Credit goes to Mike Davis on this information. He is using the Edelbrock base, but it's the same as the TPIS base(except TPIS port matches the runners to a 1205 intake gasket, or at least they did on mine).

Stock base....

Edelbrock base....

You can clearly see the difference! The runners are full size all the way through. HTH!
