i keep trying to set my idle, following the directions in the tech articles. when i ground the a and b diagnostic ports, the iac motor never stops clicking? when should i unplug the conector for the iac?

I guess wait the 30 seconds and then unplug it. You might want to unscrew the IAC and clean the pintle. Then when you put it back in hook up the IAC again, jumper A and B wait the 30 seconds and this time the IAC might fully reset and you can set idle.

is it suposed to stop clicking after a minute, then unplug it?

I say take it out and clean it. It is probably gunked up and needs a good clean. The IAC just unscrews by hand, clean the pintle and put it back in. Then start again with the setting of min air.
