what goes on the TPI intake?

as some might know im converting to TPI, i got the whole engine but all it has for the intake is the snorkel. is there a MAF sensor that goes inbetween? the guy said something about an an flow meter? which is basically the same thing. any links to a picture or an actual picture to show me what im looking at? i need to get one before i drop it in, or at least by the time im ready to fire her up. thanks TPI guys!

It depends on what year the computer your going to use came from. 85-89 use a MAF sensor, but 90-92 use speed density which doesnt need anything.

hmm well i believe its from an 89. im looking on TPIparts.net and im seeing them go for, well a rebuilt MAF sensor is 220 but a MAF sensor KIT is also 220 but i dont know what the differ is. this sucks though cuz i gotta fork out hundreds more now for this swap to be effective.

Thats true I guess. BUT! You will be running a much more forgiving system. Me if I mod my speed density I have to go in and tell the computer what happened for it to be effective, you do not. If I put on a H/C/I setup, sure I will gain power...but not as much as you would with the identical setup. Not until I tuned it at least then it would be about the same, or within 5-10hp.

Re: what goes on the TPI intake?

so your saying i can buy a Mass Air Flow sensor, bolt it in, and just go? i just want all stock right now nothing outrageous. and your saying im lucky i dont have a speed density thing?

ive replaced a MAF sensor before its just bolt and plug in. so im guessin on what you told me, thats all i gotta do and not have to tune anything?

thanks again
