I posted in the general engine section also, but I figured I should now post it here since it is a TPI engine. The car has a lot less power than it should and I cant figure out what is causing it not to have the power it should. It is a 305 TPI, and has a Comp Cams computer controlled cam in it (260/260 duration .444.444 lift 112LSA). When I start the car up when it is cold, it will stall unless I give it gas. Once it gets warm though it will stay runnning. I have looked and I dont see any vacuum leaks anywhere at all. The throttle response isnt very good on it at times. What should I start looking into?

 

Throttle Possition Sensor sounds like the place where I would start. Sounds to me like your computor isnt giving your engine the fuel or timing it wants.

 

uuuh either the TPS or the CTS (coolant temp) is out.


if neither of those fixes the problem, maybe u have to advance the timing to coincide with the cam.

 

How can I tell if it is the CTS that is bad?

 

u can test the ecm and check for codes.

take it to autozone. they do a free diagnostics test.

or if u want, just replace it, its only 15 bucks, i think. then if u have the same problem, u know it wasnt that.

 

I swapped the TPS for another one that I had laying around, and no change. I advanced the timing more also and no change. Do you think that the problem could be the cam that I put in it, being that it might be a little to big?

 

i dont think so......but maybe

try the CTS. if that doesnt fix it, then u may have cam issues.

 

Im going to try re-adjusting the valves again today, this time trying it with the engine running.

 

dude, seriously.. it sounds like the CTS. ive had it happen to 3 of my vehichles. try that first.

 

Ok, ill try the CTS today also. One thing that I found today that seems like a huge problem is that I was thinking that not all the injectors might be firing, so while the car was running I pulled the injector clips off the injector to see what kind of difference it would make, and after pulling one by one on the passenger side, the engine would idle down, but after pulling them on the driver side, it didnt make any difference at all. So im guessing that maybe my injectors are screwed up on the driver side?
