Re: TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold

It's a good piece. If I remember correctly, it's actually made by Edelbrock. I think the only difference is that TPIS cleans it up a little before boxing it up for ya. Not porting, just cleaning. Oh, and they charge a little more.

In my opinion, I'd shop around 'til I found a good deal. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase any brand. Edelbrock, TPIS, Accell/Lingenfelter.

....Does Edelbrock make the Accell piece too? I think Accel used to make it, but then the started outsourcing to Eddy. Don't quote me on that.

.....but as for whether or not it's worth it, it all depends what you have now, and what you plan on doing. On a bone stock TPI, it'll make a slight difference. You "might" feel it. The benefits start when you have aftermarket runners and a ported plenum. Beyond THAT, with heads and a cam, and some custom porting, you can REALLY wake up the motor!!! Beyond THAT, you can sell it ALL, and buy a better intake!!!!!!! -but you wouldn't look nearly as cool as you would rockin' a TPI!!!!!!!!!!

....and be careful shopping at TPIS. They offer some great parts, but they're a bit pricey, and they're tricky with potential HP gains. They find creative ways to make make the truth sound better than it is. Still, if you're planning on keeping your long runner/TPI style intake, and you're cool with the price, the Big Mouth is a GREAT part, regardless of who makes it, or sells it!

Re: TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold

Abubaca is correct. The Big Mouth is a repackaged Edelbrock intake. They may have at one time performed some extra work but the ones I have seen were no different than the Edelbrock save the name cast in.

Actually the one I think is the best is the Accel Lingenfelter one. It definitely is a different casting at least as far as the runners go. It has a slightly better entry into the heads as cast and slightly larger inlet openings.

You should be able to find a good used one for way under $500.

Re: TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold

The new Accel one is definitely a repackaged Edelbrock piece, same as the TPIS intake. The original Accel one is slightly better than the Edelbrock one, but the Edelbrock one is cheaper new and readily available.
