Winter Project 305TPI to 350 TPI

I decided earlier on this summer that I would like to do an engine swap into my 91' Z28 this time around. I have acquired a 350 block out of a Mid-late 70's Chevy van and am looking to build it. I got the entire engine for $150 and am going to completely tear it down and build myself a mild-moderate(or more if I can for my budget) 350 out of it. However this will be the first time I or my father have built something around a TPI setup, this past year was our first engine swap into a Fuel Injected vehicle (TBI).

I am coming to here for assistance on this one. We haven't taken to a serious discussion yet about the parts yet as we have just gotten the block and are finishing the body work to get it painted this next week.

I would like to keep the build between $1200-$1500 but would be willing to probably go upwards towards $1800 if I had to. We plan on doing the entire engine build ourselves minus the cleaning up of the block itself because neither of us trust the machine shops around here. ((SHould note that I figure after getting it Prof Tuned, Posi [long story why it doesn't have it atm], and injectors I figure it'll be around $2500 total))

I'm looking for a build that will compliment the 3.73s, the T-5, and the TPI. I really do not want to get rid of the TPI setup, and I know many people will speak highly of the HSR and such but I want to see what I can do with the TPI.

Is there any significant advantage to boring a 350 .030 over if you do not plan to stroke it? (I already have one, don't really need another...,) What parts you'd recommend & things you would have done if you would have known then what you know now? What kind of numbers/times posting with your builds?

Re: Winter Project 305TPI to 350 TPI

Still looking for some assistance here, I have however started compiling list of parts for combo idea and some opinions would be helpful. I have decided to up my budget to between $2000-$2500(maybe little more) for the build.

Started tearing the entire engine block apart and now its time for the serious part to begin. I do not plan to re-use a lot if any of the parts on the block as I am preferring all new. The engine block is out of a 76 Chevy Full sized van & I am going to be doing a roller conversion because I am a major fan of roller blocks.

Heres the combo I have thought up,
  • Crane PowerMax Retro Cams(CRN-119831): Duration @.050 - 222 int./230 exh., 112 Dgr
  • Dart Aluminum Heads (DRT-11520020): 64cc Chamber, 215 int, 75 exh
  • Underdrive Pulley (JET-90107)
  • Speed Pro Pistons (TRW-8KH859CP): Dish Top, 4.000 in. Bore, 5/64 in./5/64 in./3/16 in
  • 1.5in Crane Rocker Arms
  • Eagle Cast Steel 2pc Crankshaft
What would my numbers hypothetically be under my stock TPI? What about under a HSR? I ask cause I am contemplating going to a HSR however thats only if my budget permits it otherwise I will stick with the TPI until I can later down the road step up to a HSR.
