New Cam/Lifters Arrived

I ordered the TPI Cam/Lifter kit from Summit, http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku I also got a double roller timing chain to top it off, I wanted the 1.6 roller rocker arms but I'll have to wait for the money to do those. Hopefully I will be able to start on this tommorow if not then thursday. Before I do that I have to do a compression test to see if the heads I bought have a bad valve which I suspect. If so I get to another head job but atleast I will be almost there when I do the cam. Heres a pic I'll get a higher quality one and a pic of the timing chain soon. I will keep everyone updated on how it works out.-James

Just curious... why are you putting a hyd. flat tappet cam in? 87'-92' 305 TPI's were all Hyd. roller from the factory. Just wondering why you'd downgrade...

I'm not, who ever had the car before me switched out the motor to an earlier 85-86 TPI. Should have mentioned that. But on the brighter side, I didnt have a bad valve.

Ahh... OK. That makes more sense.

Re: New Cam/Lifters Arrived

Well I was putting air in the cylinders to compress the valve spring on Cyl #5 and it started whistling, pulled the heads off and look what I found...

Well after months of searching I finally found the stupid squeak that was coming out of my tailpipes. On the brighter side the new cam, lifters, and timing chain are in. The old cam had lobe wear, the bottom of the lifters were worn, the timing chain was original, stretched and hitting the cover, and my harmonic balancer spun 2 degrees. The exhaust valve on Cyl #2 looks a little off, tommorow I am bringing them back to the guy who did them and he is re-doing them, sitting my new springs in, and I think he is going to get me a set of gaskets. My car ran pretty dang good for running off 7 cylinders, but thats a SBC for ya.
