Fuel Filter, O-Rings??!?!?

I've converted my car from Carb to TPI. I seem to have a major fuel leak at the filter. (I got a set of stock lines from a 1LE Car.) The fuel seemed to come out around the threads of the fuel lines. I opened up the line that was really leaking and it looks like it should have a O-ring. The compression lip thing is there but there is no sleeve above to put the o-ring on.. ( hope that makes sense)

The Main question is should my Fuel filter have O-rings on both ends?!?!? My book dosen't say anything about it.
Thanks

Re: Fuel Filter, O-Rings??!?!?

The lines have what is called a flare fitting. It is similar to the end of a brake line (double flare), or looks like the end, on a down pipe at the manifold (single flare).

You take a special tool and expand the end of the pipe.

The fuel filter should be a special tapered matching female flare. Not a o ring.

Did you buy the FI type fuel filter? It should match the 1LE car that you got the lines from.

Re: Fuel Filter, O-Rings??!?!?

I know the type of flare that you are talking about. This flare looks exactly like the one on the end of the lines up at the engine. where the hose connects to the fuel rail lines and chassis lines. These fittings take o-rings. The only thing is there is no lip for the o ring to sit on at the filter. I haven't replaced the filter as of yet. I'll have to re-investigate the line ends when I replace the filter. I figured I'd catch the dirt that was in the line in the old filter and then put a new one.

I'll check again on the filter to see if maybe what I thought I saw was wrong. I tried to tighten it up but that didn't work either.

Yes, the fuel rails to lines, take the o ring and have the lip for them to set on.

The fuel filter doesn't. Check to make sure the threads are not crossed, this will give you a big leak.

Seems to me both ends of the filter arent flared connections, and both ends require an o-ring thats never included with the new filter.

Disconnect the line on the OTHER side of the fuel filter and see what is being used. They are most likely the same style on both ends.

I have a 1989 Camaro 305 FI Vin E (TBI).

I'll check this when I go to replace the filter this weekend.

What year cars do you guys have. That may be the problem. Maybe there is a difference in years. I don't really know what year the 1LE lines I got came from. I was only told they were from a wrecked 1LE car.

My '87 5.7L definitely has O rings there. I've used injector ones in a pinch. A little big, but it didn't leak.

yes little tan o-rings, the parts stores always have an assortment of them. Just match one up to slide on the end of it.
