Adjusting valves.

Errr Modifed my 1987 firebird. Threw in an accel cam with 1.5 full roller rockers. I feel as though they need adjusting. When both valves are closed, you roll the pushrods until there slightly snug then loosed 1/4 turn? then tighten? Or have both valves closed and use a feeler gauge? Forgive me, its been a while since I've been under the hood of my car..

BTW, I have guide plates and 3/8 screw in studs if that matters any.

Re: Adjusting valves.

according to comp cams procedure. when the valve is closed you tighten the rocker nut until no more up and down play from rocker to lifter. once it cant go up and down you tighten it either 1/2 - 3/4 of a turn more. then move on to next.

Re: Adjusting valves.

To add a little more to that from comp cams:

When the intake valve just starts to move, tighten the exhaust valve. Vice versa with tightening the intake valve.
This insures that the valve is completely closed on the rocker that you're tightening.

Re: Adjusting valves.

If you're using poly-locks, here's how I do them. I set my valves at 1/2 turn of lash. Set the lash to 3/8 of a turn, tighten the allen set screw tight while holding the nut with a box end wrench, and then turn both together the last 1/8 of a turn. Guaranteed not to come loose.
