adding teflon tape to knock sensor.

I'm sure down the line its stupid, but I believe I've heard of others doing the same. On my 87 firebird I have a magnaflow muffler mounted right after the Y pipe. So its basically sitting where the catalytic converter was. Because of the relocation I've noticed that the Knock sensor retards the timing a bit and I've heard of people adding teflon tape to the knock sensor thread. Any truth to this?
