Losing fuel pressure

A couple of months ago I was out at the track and went to adjust my fuel pressure. I couldnt get it to go above 40 psi and no it is around 25-30 psi. If the AFPR diaphragm rips can that cause pressure loss. Im think though that the fuel pump is getting weak. I have a a/f guage and it isnt really running much leaner and still has power. However one night coming home it was running very lean. The pressure guage is an accel and said not for permanent installation could if be a guage issue, I dont think it is the otherwise it would be running extremely rich. Any ideas would be great.

THANKS

Re: Losing fuel pressure

If there's fuel leaking out the vacuum port on the AFPR, then the diaphragm is torn.

Re: Losing fuel pressure

Does the pressure fall off quickly after the pump stops running?

You can find out where the pressure loss is. Crimp the fuel line that returns residual fuel back to the tank. Turn the key to let the pump prime for 2 seconds. Check your pressure. It shoud be high. If it is, then you know that the pump is putting out enough pressure. If the pump is good, then find the pressure line. Turn the key to let the pump prime for 2 seconds. Crimp the pressure line as soon as the pump is done priming. Now release the crimp on the RETURN line. If pressure drops off quickly, then you know the regulator or injectors are leaking gas. I'd suspect FPR in this case

Re: Losing fuel pressure

How long should it take for the fuel pressure to start leaking down?I have some symptoms of leaky injectors(accel). No leaks from the holley afpr or the vacume line that I`ve been able to find.It takes about 2.5 to 3 hours for it to leak most of the way down.

Re: Losing fuel pressure

The fuel pressure does stay up for a while after shut down so I dont think its an injector isse.
