**NEED HELP** LT1 Intake conversion on L98

At the beginning of the summer I bought a LT1 intake and such from someone on the TGO Boards here. The car has been in Charlotte since then having that done along with some other cool stuff. When they installed it, it wasn't matching up very good so there was some doubt whether it would seal or not. The fellas did a pressure test on it Friday and sure enough it didn't seal and leaks coolant now.

I'm currently running a set of 113 heads from a 1988 Corvette on the car and I was wondering if there was a way to make this intake seal to those heads or am I looking at having to change heads...again? I've been without my car since May and I really want to be driving it again so any help would be appreciated so I can try to get this issue resolved and my car running again very soon.

Where's it leaking? Have the heads been angled milled?

The LT1 intake ought to seal to the L98 heads without mods.

From what I understand the angle of the holes are different between earlier L98 aluminum heads and later ones. This one was setup for the heads I don't have. I've decided to go a different direction so the entire setup will be going up for sale as soon as it comes off the car. Thanks for the reply.

Re: **NEED HELP** LT1 Intake conversion on L98

there isnt alot of material around the water port area on the LT1 manifold. you will need to have material built up around that area as well as around the ports possibly to get it to seal great

take a manifold gasket for the 113 heads and line it up on the LT1 manifold and see what i'm talking about. You dont have much room to seal if no material was welded or built up around the water port area on the LT1 intake flange

Wish I would have caught you earlier Patrick, as I just decided to do the same swap. The center eight bolts need to be relocated, and some of them, if not all, elongated. If you decide to keep the LT1 intake, I started a thread in the Alternative Intake forum which will be documenting the swap with an EDIS-8 setup....

Re: **NEED HELP** LT1 Intake conversion on L98

It's all good Rob. I could use it, but I'd have to get new heads so in order to keep what I've got I figured I'd just go a different route and possibily pick up a little more power than what I was already expecting with the LT1 intake. So, for now, the TPI stuff is going back on until I can get the money together get my hands on the setup I'm going with. Like I said, I'll be selling the setup minus injectors and TB once it's off the car. Whoever decides to buy it will be better off than when I got it since it'll come with the spacer, remote t-stat housing, AFPR, and a couple of other things. It's also been media blasted to get it back to it's stock natural aluminum color. As soon as it comes off and gets put in a box for me I can give a better list of everything that'll be coming with it.

BTW, how do you like your 406? That was what I wanted in my car instead of the 383. I figured it would have been more expensive to build the 406, but now...I'm not so sure. I think I could have probably had it built for less than what my 383 has cost me.

Re: **NEED HELP** LT1 Intake conversion on L98

^ Recently took the 406 for it's first outting, and wasn't too happy w/the baseline. It's only running 8:5.1 compression w/stock camshaft (horrid tune), so I can't expect much from it right now. Once the intake and T-76 turbo goes on it should wake things up, just a tad....

Re: **NEED HELP** LT1 Intake conversion on L98

The single turbo header setup is still pending, as I have plans to purchase a setup from one of the members here very soon. I'm in a tug of war with myself regarding the fuel/air control which is the reason for the delay, as a blow-thru carb would be so much easier to do. Really want to install the LT1 intake, but if I can't get the internal dizzy plug for the oil pump to mount properly inside of the engine I might not go through with it (trying to avoid cutting the freaking hole for the dizzy entirely)....
