ildle problem!!!!! help!!!

ok i have a 86 camaro with a late 80s mabe early 90s 350 (previous owner bought it like that so i have no idea what year it is) anyway, for some reason, whenever i set the timing so its idleing at what it SHOULD be (around 700 rpm) it has no power. in order for it to have power it has to be idleing at around 1200 or so. can someone please tell me what the hell i can do to fix this?

Re: ildle problem!!!!! help!!!

Are you setting the timing with the ignition advance connector unplugged? If noy, then you're not setting base timing, and just fighting with the computer for timing control while adjusting it. The connector for it is sticking out of the wire harness over the heater box, it's a single tan wire, with only one plug. Timing should be around 6* at 600-800RPM.

Also, you don't adjust the timing to set idle speed, you adjust the throttle stop on the throttle body. Set the timing with a timing light and using the mark on the harmonic balancer.
