SLP runner question??
Ok so I am about to buy some SLP runners from a friend. What all has to be done so I can run them? Someone said I need to change the mass air sensor?
also how hard is it to install them? He said one of the bolt holes had been heli-coiled? Is that gonna cause any problems?

Re: SLP runner question??
You don't need to replace the mass air flow sensor.
The hardest part will be lining up all of the bolt holes. You can try dropping the runners in first and getting them attached, then putting the plenum in place and tightening everything down.
It's a good time to remove and clean your throttle body, and you could port your stock plenum if you wanted to. If you have any trouble with the car running afterwards it's probably due to a vacuum leak, so get new gaskets to help avoid that.
As far as helicoils I think there is only one or two threaded holes on each runner so if they were installed properly you should be fine. FYI I bought SLP runners new for $160 sometime around 2000 so I hope you don't pay near that for used ones that had the bolt holes stripped.

Re: SLP runner question??
Make sure you get all of the SLP bolts from him as well. You also want the ball end hex wrench. Without it you will have a ton of trouble getting the lower bolts installed. Another issue I had was that the passenger side wire harness was a bit tight. I had to open up the harness and reroute the CTS wires and the IAC wires. Take a few minutes and make sure your runner to intake gaskets line up before you install them. If you are using the stock TPI intake, things should line up well for you. I have the SDPC TPI/Vortec intake base and the intake bolts hit the bottom of the runners. I had to remove some material from the bolt heads.

Re: SLP runner question??
If you dont port match the base to the runners, it will actually hurt the performance. Now once you match them, its a very nice improvement.
If the heli-coil was done right, its not a problem.

Re: SLP runner question??
Ok my only other question is I was told I have the SD(scoggin and dickey) intake and vortec heads and was told that i can't run SLP runners only edlebrocks? is this true? and why?
Re: SLP runner question??
That is the setup I have. Installed with a bit of massaging ( read my previous post), but it fits well. I checked with SD before I purchased the intake and they told me it would work and it does. Dont know why someone told you it would fit. Can you get any details from that person?

I talked to this guy about it and a few others and they all say you have to modify them alittle or grind them to **** to get them to fit..

Mine hit the heads of some of the intake mounting bolts, but I was able to grind down the bolt heads to get a fit. Doubt that I would want to do any grinding on the actual runners, too easy to grind thru them. I did not make any other mods
