What is required for TPI

Ok i have a 87 Trans Am 350 TPI MAF car. And i was wanting to do a TPI swap into a 91 firebird 305 tbi. What exact sensors, wiring, ETC. is required to run the tpi? Thanks

Re: What is required for TPI

I wish someone would answer your question, as i am also looking to swap to tpi. my camaro is an 84 z28, and there is a full tpi set up for sale for $300 obo. since an 84 never came with tpi, im thinking my swap will be a little more difficult.

as far as i know if you get a full set up ( manifold, injectors, ecu, wiring harnes) it should all bolt right on and hook right up. in my case i might have to do something about an o2 sensor, and maybe a fuel pump/ return lines, but again this is just off what i have been researching recently.

btw, i checked some of the banned topics and FAQ areas and didnt really see this question posted. so unless im blind, we should be in the clear. haha

You will have to rewire or swap out the ecm and wire in some extra injector wire's and plugs. Most of the sensors are the same tps/iac/coolant temp etc. It is possible to run tpi off of the tbi ecm but it wont run right especially at higher rpm. I would go with a Dynamicefi Flash ebl with the port mod. THen you can plug the ecm in without any rewireing, and just add the extra injector harness. Hope this helps a little. Do a search in the search forum and Im sure youll find you answers, Hope this helps a little?

Note also that the 87 will have v-belts, the 91 will have serpentine. I would keep the serpentine setup, but that will require either an 88-89 TPI harness, or modifying the 87 one. The only difference will be the A/C compressor and alternator wires, since they switched sides with the serpentine setup.
