NEW TO TPI AND HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS
NEW TO TPI AND HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS
hi guys i have been working my 78 TA for years and built a nice blueprinted 355 to take place of the poor leaky 403 it came with. the block, heads, crank are out of a 84 Vette, Keith Black hyper. 10.3:1 pop ups, and for the top end i ended up going with an Edelbrock perf. rpm Airgap pkg 750 carb and 278/288 cam, 1.6:1 rollers, headers and all the obvious for high perf. stuff, but i never got the carb tuned in right no matter how i configured the jetting so i parked it. now 2 years later i have myself a TPI from a 86 Vette and has inspired me to try another option to my stubborn carbs and to pick up the hobby again. my question is with my lower half of the motor most specifically the cam how is that going to work with the TPI? where is the best place to have PROMs burnt? has anyone tried putting a few ponds of boost say around 6-8 lbs through a TPI? any recommendations on doing that? any general recommendations for doing the conversion (other than buythe book, it is on its way...) ?
thank you
thank you

Since you are a new guy, the first function you need to check out is "search." Your questions are common to this sort of a set-up. I know it isn't what you want to hear, but it beats reinventing the wheel.

Re: NEW TO TPI AND HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS
Well let me help ya out a little bit here. As for your camshaft, most likely will need to be swapped for a Fuel Injection intended cam. Most all cam companys make off the shelf grinds for TPI/LT-1. As for eproms, dont even bother buying a off the shelf chip, for about half of what it would cost to have one burned you could buy the equipment and do it yourself (check out the DIY PROM forum). And yes there is a ton of guys on this forum running boost on TPI. I know of a couple guys running sub 10' in the 1/4 with turbos and stock runners.

Re: NEW TO TPI AND HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS
Again read through the stickies on the DIY prom board, theres a list of the basic componants you need to burn chips and where the equipment can be bought at. As for a cam, im a big fan of the TPIS zz-9 cam, especially while running production heads. And ( Im not 100% sure) I think they changed manifold bolt pattern in 86 which wont work on your 84 heads, I have been wrong b4 though lol
Re: NEW TO TPI AND HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS
ive been doing a bit of reading and im wondering if i will need to use a vehicle/trans speed sensor on this TPI conversion. can anyone shed some light on this for me?
