Need feedback on Iron heads
Need feedback on Iron heads
I'm comparing two iron heads that are stock replacements but come with some added flow over the stock 85 iron heads (76cc) I currently have, which need replacing.
One is a Summit head SUM-152123
2.02" intake/1.60" exhaust valves 165cc runners 67cc combustion
the other World's S/R Torquers WRL-042660-1
2.02" intake/1.60" exhaust valves 170cc runners 67cc combustion
I've read good reviews on World Torquers, which is fine and all but my question is will the 5cc runner difference be worth it? Or is the design itself much better in some way? Does it justify the $200 difference?
I'm not looking to make crazy power here and I'd prefer not to go the vortec route as it requires a different manifold. Just need to replace what I have and wouldn't mind picking up a few compression points and better flow.
Thanks all

Honestly, I suggest the World S/R Torquer 58 cc combustion chambered Cylinder head to boost your compression and increase your torque which you feel in the seat of your pants. Especially when you consider that you probably have low compression pistons as well.
They are intended for 305's but have worked with great results on 350's.

I think that come in two forms.... 1)pre 1987 intake face and 2) post 1987 intake face....
Are you carbed or running a TPI. I know it says that you have a 1985 Camaro but people do swaps....

Re: Need feedback on Iron heads
Anyone with feedback on the first two iron heads mentioned, open to hear ya. Just looking to see if there'd be much difference between them as a stock to mild replacement.
Thanks.

Re: Need feedback on Iron heads
I'd be very surprised if the Iron cylinder head 58 cc chamber makes you prone to detonation... I think that Linginfelter's book states that you can go as high as 10.5 to 1 compression because the TPI is injecting fuel and it's atomised better... if it was carbed it would be a different story.....
Besides the fact that your pistons would be low compression.

Re: Need feedback on Iron heads
There's an equation to figure out your compression ratio..... I'll find it and post it.
I was gonna put the 58 cc World S/R Torquer head on my 350 GTA because of it's high valve lift capability and high velocity 170cc intake runner, besides that I was gonna run Felpro's 1094 head gasket with .015 compressed thickness for more compression! But after alot of thought I went with the 180 AFR's instead. I didn't want to do the same job twice
Still have the ported and polished S/R's in the basement. I even polished the combustion chamber to give myself added insurance.

Re: Need feedback on Iron heads
what pistons are you runnin flatop or dish ya 58cc is to small 10.5 compression is probably to high with iron heads you will need premium fuel. you probably should stick with a 67cc head. tiger it may even be higher depending on your combo. if you need help figuring your cr list your parts for your combo an someone can figure it real quick for you.

Re: Need feedback on Iron heads
Fact of the matter is you probably don't have flat tops and your original compression ratio isn't @ 9.5:1
The link below is from John Lingenfelter's book on modifying small-block chevy engines..... Let's say for instance that you have a 9.26:1 static compresion engine (with -13cc pistons). By decreasing the combustion chamber size by 4cc give or take would yield you 9.72:1 CR.
Now consider this.......the example in the link is a 4.030" (355Ci) 3.48" stroke with a .015" deck height (which increases CR by .28 over the stock .025")
Now your engine has probably never been decked before, so the compression ratio is back down to 9.44:1CR with the 58cc combustion chamber...... Well within a safe operating enviroment.....
MY
The thing is you won't really know until you crack your engine open. My deck height was .040" on a GM Remanufactured block.... Good luck!

Re: Need feedback on Iron heads
Theoretically.........
That would mean that you have the -13cc pistons with .025" deck hieght.... which would equal 8.98:1 CR
All's good.....
you have lots of room to play with
Search 305 S/R Heads on 350's
