questions and thoughts about speed density systems

alright so i converted my tbi rs to a speed density tpi .

so it was a stock prom running the small peanut cam and tbi 187 heads with no issues .
also ran fine with 1.6 roller rockers .

last month i swapped in a 90 lb9 so it has the l98 cam and the correct 081 heads .
and i also installed my 1.6 roller rockers

my question is how is the computer able to handle these 2 very different cam/head setups but yet people say the speed density ecm need returned for lt1 cams and what not?

it seems to me the speed density ecm is just fine with mods like the earlier maf setups.

also for some reason my Tps sensor has to be set at 0.54 like the earlier maf setups setting it to 0.70 like its been said for sd setups causes a code for tps and after doing the min idle setting and it forces the idle to around 1000
doing the same setting with 0.54 and the min idle it idles around 675 according the test tach .

i know my speed density setup is from a 90 formula and i installed its 90 formula engine now .

as i said earlier it seems to be the speed density ecm seem able to run different head/cam combos just fine .

like currently its running the l98 cam with 1.6 roller rockers bringing the cam very close to lt1 cam specs.

is it just me or is the speed density ecms more adaptable then most people think?

Re: questions and thoughts about speed density systems

Yes they are definitely more adaptable than the myth around here says they are. SD TPI will work just fine with a stock cam and heads as you have. In fact, I was able to use a stock 305 5-speed TPI chip on my 350 TPI 5-speed with a ZZ4 cam and 22lbs injectors. It wasnt until I went to the LT4 HOT cam that I needed a custom chip to get it to idle.

The myth that SD sucks is just that, a myth. MAF engines will require a new chip if you put in a bigger camshaft, too, so they're not any better.
