Hard starting
After doing a search on this subject, I came across some posts discussing a cold start injector. I'm wondering if my car has one of these, as the symptoms associated with a cold start injector match the problem I'm having. I own a 1985 IROC-Z with a 305 TPI engine. If my car has this, where is it located and how difficult is it to replace?

Re: Hard starting
You have one. It's mounted into the TPI runners near the base.
It's for cold start.
Are you getting hard starting all the time cold and hot?

Re: Hard starting
It happens both cold and hot. It will start up right away if I restart it shortly after turning it off. But if I wait even just a few minutes between turning it off and then turning it back on, I have to crank it for several seconds before it fires. The other thing is, if it has sat for a couple of days, the first time I attempt to start it, it usually fires right up. But after that I'm wearing out my battery and starter.

Ah, yeah. A lot of folks just get rid of the cold start injector for this reason.
It will run without one but ideally you have the tune adjusted in the chip too.
You can't just unplug it. The fuel line has to be plugged to prevent it from leaking fuel into the intake.
The other option is to replace it.

Re: Hard starting
Have you check the 3amp crank fuse? it's for the cold start circuit. There's also a cold start switch next to the coolant temperature sensor, it's connector is identical to a fuel injector connector.

No, I have not. Man I can only hope that is it. I'm assuming that it's located in the fuse panel, is that correct? I'll check it out tomorrow morning.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Hard starting
Is it really supposed to be a 3 amp fuse? it's 15A for and '87 TPI. I have an '85 LB9 and I'm having a similar issue and I have no 3 amp fused in the fuse panel.

Yes, the crank fuse is a 3 amp.
The circuit is totally independent - turns on once for every key cycle the switch operates by temperature over time so, the amount of fuel it delivers is proportional to the temperature, the hotter it gets the sooner it shuts off.
It provides not input to the ECM, and the ECM doesn't control it.
