diagnosing a dying car

after running into countless problems with the cooling system and a whole buncha of other crap. ive been lead to believe its my ignition system thats causing my car to die at a stop. the problem im having is that when i turn on the car, itll idle very good for about 20 minutes, sometimes alittle more, then it turns off. then it wont turn back on until i wait for another 5 to 10 minutes to pass by, then itll just turn off again. so i decided today to take apart the upper part of the distributor and see what i have under the distributor cap. the cap and rotor were replaced recently so they had little to no wear, however the coil seems to be alittle on the ugly side. now what i need is some tips on to which component of my ignition system could give me this problem. some have told me the pickup coil, some have told me the module others have told me the ignition coil. and since im on a real tight budget because this car has drained me of all my enthusiasm and money, i need to just find the one that is the culprit and replace it. heres some pics to let you know what im working on and what condition its in.

Re: diagnosing a dying car

Are you thinking it's an ignition problem due to it failing a test for spark?
When it's cranking the plugs do not spark at all?

well i went ahead and tested my coil at home with an ohmmeter and it failed. so i know for sure its dead now. im just not sure if anything else is bad either.

the problem i get is that itll turn on, die after a while, then not turn back on. i hope this fixes my car
