Building a one off tpi car(head questions)
Hi all,
like the title states im building a 327(bored to a 333ci
) tpi car while using Speed Density
the shortblock has been balenced/zero decked with forged pistons/gm pink rods that were shot peened
my cam is a summit 1103 IIRC 214/224 .442/.465 at 1.5rocker and 112 LSA
NOW, my question to ask, ive got a set of L98 083 iron heads on it and have a chance to get a set of 3947041 heads for 100 dollars and are in fair shape.
Is it worth it to modify tpi intake so i can use the 041 heads or just port and polish the 083 heads?
mind you until i can afford patroit aluminum heads and HSR im using tpi and stock style heads.
So what do you think?

I recondition cylinder heads and I can tell you that working over an old set of iron heads in "fair" shape will cost about as much as a new set of aluminum heads. It would all depend on the exact particulars about the shape of these 041 heads.
Typically an old set of heads will need guides or liners, new valves, springs, retainers, and locks, resurfacing, and a complete valve job. A performance build may require a little more machining of spring pockets, guide bosses and extra work into the valve job ( multi-angles, radiusing, bowl work/porting).
If the heads already have screw-in studs and guideplates, and the valves and guides are all perfect, then that's a pretty good advantage.
You really should look closer at those 041 heads to see exactly what you're getting.

the 041 heads are rebuilt and in good shape. I say fair shape due to their not a set of race heads lol
