ACCEL TPI Intake?

How good is the ACCEL TPI Intake? Will one off of a 1987 Corvette work on a 1989 305? Can you still get gasket sets form them? Will the AS&M Lager Tube Runners work with the intake?

It will fit, but if you haven't bought it yet, don't bother. You can port the stock base, plenum and runners to support a healthy 305. Any of the aftermarket intake upgrades will net very little gains if any over a ported stock unit.

Re: ACCEL TPI Intake?

The original Accel TPI intake is just as good as or better than the Edelbrock TPI intake. The current Accel intake is made by Edelbrock and is the exact same piece now.

They're made to fit F-bodies and Corvettes. Just check to make sure the middle four bolts are slotted to fit your newer style intake. The Corvette heads have the older style intake bolt pattern. Any runners will fit with it.

David, I respectfully disagree. Not everyone can port their own intake. Removing the stock intake and putting on an aftermarket intake is easier and faster than removing the stock intake, porting it, and then putting it back on. And yes there will be horsepower and torque gains, even on a 305 TPI.

Re: ACCEL TPI Intake?

Well I will be rebuilding my 305 want to keep the original engine. I am still in the research mode and will be till I work out all the details, and save up the money.

So far this is what I am looking at going with.

1 Port and polish the 081 heads to match bigmouth/Accel or similar Intake. Also add the 1.94 intake valve.

2 AS&M Large Tube Runners port and polish the Plenum to match the runners.

3 Comp cams 08-501-8 cam, and stronger springs 1.52 roller tip rockers.

4 Flat top hypereutectic pistons not sure of brand at this time.

5 Hooker Headers 2055-1HKR 3" Cat Back.

6 Get a tuner and do some tuning on my computer.

7 And overhaul of engine.

Still thinking about Vortec just not sure it is worth the extra cost.

Good point and I was mainly looking at the cost vs the gains. Just not worth it on the smaller bore engine, IMO. I seem to recall a few guys running the aftermarket intakes on the 305's years ago with not much if any better results(track or dyno) than the modified stock pieces. I had excellent results from my shadetree ported factory base, plenum and runners on my old 305. I would love to see an actual test of before and after on say a cam/headed 305 setup.

Re: ACCEL TPI Intake?

i thought the original accel base had both style bolt patterns?

if you find one getting gaskets for it will probably be hard.
