i just had a few questions...
ok, first i want to start off by saying i have pretty much no engine rebuild knowledge, the deepest ive gone into my motor was doing valve seals and headers.
now having that said, this summer i plan on trying to get a 350 TPI build going, im giong to try to finda 350 TPI (just to make it easier and less complicated than trying to find a 305 and then find 350 heads) and my father is going to help when he can (used to be a GM mechanic for like 20-25 yrs)
this car is my daily driver so i need to get the motor, build it, then take time off my work schedule to install it eventually, but im on the fence aboutmaking it into a 383 TPI which is what my main quesitons were about...
1. gas mileage of 350 v 383 TPI
2. Power of 350v 383
3. how hard is it to install a stroker kit?
4. how much would a kit run (i tried to research it and all i found was from 150 to 3,500 dollars(
5. is it worth it do to all the work toa daily driver (i plan on getting a truck eventually but for now all i got is the 87 t/a to get he here and there)
thank you very much, any info that you can help me with will be greatly appreciated!

Re: i just had a few questions...
Building a 383 TPI is extremely involved. Not only are you going to have to port the crap out of your intake, or replace, you'll have to get much better flowing heads and exhaust.
Lots of computer reprogramming is also on your plate if you want it to actually run with it's intended power and gas economy.
To do it the right way you're also going to be spending a small fortune in supporting mods.
It's been done by some. Me included. So far my grand total (includes some interior stuff) is $30,000.
I got a forged stroker kit that ran me ~2200 bucks. The machine shop you use will have to balance your rotating assembly and most likely have to clearance your block for the rods. I ended up clearancing my own block.
Assembly is no different than a 350. The right tools make a world of difference.
Being that you're relatively green in this area I would just build a strong 350. It'll still be fun as can be but cost you a bit less. BTW - I had to get drag radials to give the car good enough street manners. Lighting 'em up at 65mph is fun up to a point, then it gets old.

oh ok...that sounds like plenty good reasoning to take 383 off my list lol, thanks for your help.
what can i do (more towards small cost items) that i can improve the power of a 350? i was planning on getting a new cam when i did the work, but thats all i can think of lol

Re: i just had a few questions...
There are a plethora of threads on the forum dedicated to different builds for the 350. Do a search and i'm sure you'll find one that tickles you in just the right way.
I'm not trying to steer you away from a 383 tpi just inform you of the depth required in it's construction.
There's no denying the fun factor.

Re: i just had a few questions...
no i understand that a 383 would be fun, but from what you've said...i think thats more work than i'd be bargaining to get into. and thanks, i figured theres a bunch of different threads here for building a 350, i was just thinking about the little things other than a cam that can be done lol. i guess if i get too lazy to read im sure i can always just stop by my local speedshop and say 'heres what i want to do....suggestions?' and he'll probably talk my ear off for 4 hours
