TPI build questions
Ok so I want to mod my L98 with just a few minor things like a cam. I want to go with the LT4 hotcam, but due to the iron heads I am not sure what valves or rockers or lifters to go with. Also if I were to put the cam can the car run just fine like that or will i NEED a tune? So pretty much the question is, what do i need to make my L98 run excellent with a LT4 hotcmam.
Thank You.
Also, my budget is pretty low, so I am afraid to pass the $800 mark with all those minor mods.

There is a thread similar to this one that you subscribed to. Kevin91Z suggests
upgrading the stock springs to the manleys mentioned in the thread that can
handle up to .550 lift ..a good tune will be required to run the HOT cam as well.
You wont have to constantly tune the car, as long as you dont change
parts all the time. For $800 bucks, its a risky move and you could be stuck
with a car that does not run correctly.
Your better off going the ZZ4 route if you wanna stay away from tuning, its ECM friendly.

Re: TPI build questions
Hard to say, shops vary alot.. knowledge/ability wise as well.
If you know a shop that is very familiar with OBDI and TPI
in general.. It could be a very painless process.
stock rockers, or rollers are nice.. not sure if 1.6 ratio arms
will benefit the setup.. maybe Kevin can answer that one.
Id reserve close to $500, but ..thats just estimating time/labor.

So a zz4 cam some nice roller rockers and lifters would put me in what whp range? I am looking for 300+hp not necessarily whp but it would be nice. Would shaving the heads help too? I did that to a 350 I have in my truck with a 280 cam and it really helped.

Re: TPI build questions
Yeah $500 is on the low side if you upgrade rockers and cam. You can reuse lifters but why?
Cam $200 and up for roller.
Good roller tip rockers $200 and up for SA Hydraulic.
Good hydraulic roller lifters $100 and up.
I would like more info like what are you looking to do with the car? Bump up the HP or just get a better sound?
If you are going to put in a cam and want to go with a hot cam. Why if you are not going to open up the intake and exhaust? Unless you have plans down the road for the engine.

Re: TPI build questions
I really dont know. I just want to have lots of power, and the sound of it too. I wont use it ALL the time, im not much of a racer but i just love having it. Im researching and the zz4 cam doesnt sound to bad, I just really am afraid of tuning.

Re: TPI build questions
Ok for sound exhaust and cam.
I would say Hooker Headers 2055
A good cam, computer compatible
Heads/springs that will work with the cam lift you choose.
New lifters and pushrods
Better plug wires
You will also want to open up the intake to realy use a good cam. You could do this down the road.
If you go with a hot cam, it will need a new tune.
This is just a starting point.

Re: TPI build questions
I dont want to change the heads. I was thinking at first a hot cam, rockers springs and lifters. Then later on some nice runners and intake. Headers yea ill probaby go with those you mentioned. Like I said im trying to stay in the $800 range.
