extra connector

Have a 89 firebird with a 350 auto and being as i bought it 2 years ago i am going thru the engine bay and noticed a connector not hooked up. Was wondering if it goes to anything or might be used for a stick car. It is a 2 connector plug with a white wire and a pink with black stripe wire. The connector lookes like the one below but with the noted color wires....

Re: extra connector

first its aftermarket - that is not a gm connector.
looking at the color chart there is a pink and black part of the cooling fan circuit or is the defogger circuit - a little hard to tell from the charts but no white one as part of it.
there is also a set of pink and black ones that connect to - air select solenoid, canister purge solenoid, egr recircuit solenoid, and an air diverter solenoid.
there are some that go to the ecm too.
unfortunatelty the wiring diagram does not give me the option to look for specific wires by color.
but that IS AN AFTERMARKET plug, i use them myself because I cant get the gm ones, they are propriatary to gm and not sold anyplace new.
it looks yellow and purple in the pic you posted.
you can trace it back to the fuse and see what ones it hooks to then you will know.
good luck.

Re: extra connector

the picture is just a representation and not the actual connector. and i agree i tried looking thru a wiring diagram also and couldnt find what it is for. was seeing if anyone also had a 89 with a 350 and a auto that had the connector and had it hooked up to something. reason being is the car had the trans rebuilt by AAMCO before i got it and was wondering if they might have forgot to hook it back up as the connector is right on top of the trans housing where it mates to the engine.

Re: extra connector

In that location, I'm guessing its for the EGR solenoid, or the IAT sensor under the plenum. Do you get any SES lights?

Re: extra connector

If it's behind the distributor its nothing - there are a few posts on here about it, i have the same thing on my 87. I havent heard what it is, but it is there, and unhooked on all of them it seems.
