Problems on take off
I have searched for a day on the forums but cant find anything on this particular problem. I have an 1987 Trans Am 305 TPI, i was having alot of trouble with the check engine light on giving me code 34 i believe well yesterday i did a full tune up, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, oil and so on.
I bought a microtech MAF replaced all the relays(burn off, fuel pump this was couple weeks ago) also had to replace the waterpump and clean out the system real good. The timing was also off by alot and we got that fixed.
So now the code is gone finally! but (**sigh** there is alway a but) now my car has no power when i take off. Here is an example...i will be at a stop and stop the gas and the car goes no where cant even spin the tires that are bald and bad. Then the car shifts into 2nd (its automatic) after hitting redline and pow! sucker pulls like crazy sinking you back into your seat. its like two different cars. It keeps on pulling with no power loss, also when driving normally i have noticed it runs just a bit rough.
The car has 118,000 miles no mods its bone stock except flowmaster exhaust and k/n filter. Cant think of anything else i can tell you about the car, any help or suggestions would be greatlly appreciated.
Thanks,

Sounds like first gear is slipping. Also could be your throttle position sensor. Check the sensor and make sure you are getting 0.5 volts on the output wire and about 4.5-5 volts at wide open throttle. Do this with the key on engine off. Let me know what you find in the readings.

I'll take a stab at this one and say check your plug wires again. If any one of them touch the exhaust they will arc against the headers/manifolds and cause the problems you're having.Been there done that.lol

Ok i have checked my plug wires and they are not touching headers, TPS was .56v closed and 4.66 v WOT. I am at a loss on what the problem could be.

Re: Problems on take off
Your first gear sounds like it's slipping. Did that in my S-10 before I rebuilt it.
