87 TPI IAC Replacment..
The book says the measurment should not exceed 1 1/8 when replacing a new IAC.Does that mean you have to adjust the pintle up to 1 1/8,or any measurement before that is okay to install???
Thanks

The 1-1/8" is the distance from the gasket mounting surface of the IAC valve to the tip of the pintle. Basically, the pintle can't be sticking out of the IAC Motor more than that or it'll damage the seat or IAC when you screw it into the housing. Depending on your IAC, you either screw the pintle in by turning it (by hand) clockwise (into the body of the IAC). or you push it in with firm hand pressure to obtain the 1-1/8" or less measurement. Torque the IAC motor to 13 lb ft when you install it into the housing. No adjustment is needed after that, the computer will adjust it from there.

My book says to carefully rock it back and forth while pushing to avoid damaging the worm gear. That's the only way I could get mine to retract(89).
