Re: lunati opinions
It's more than enough for a street engine. Personally I'd run a 6" rod. For a 383 that will make 450-650HP I like a 4340 crank, 4340 H-beam rods with capscrews, and flat top pistons with two valve reliefs. A flat top piston in a 383 with a 70cc head will be right around 10.5:1 compression depending on deck height and gasket thickness. I really like Mahle pistons. I used a set in my last 383 and will use them in the next one. They are coated and come with rings. Overall though Lunati has a great rep and I wouldn't hesitate to use their products.
I would ditch the flat tappet and run a roller cam if the budget allows. I rollerize the whole valvetrain. It reduces friction, which improvespower and reduces the heat thrown off into the oil. It also allows for more aggressive ramps, which translate into more low and mid lift power. Area under the curve is the key to a street engine, and that's where a roller cam shines.
