Re: what motor is this?

Looks like a LG series motor, 5.0.. LG4's were only 305 no?
Probably wrong, It looks like it was intentionally gobbed up by
something! I dont know too much, but it does look kinda funny.

It was a carbed/TBI? engine, converted to TPI.. Take a
head off and measure the bore to tell you what it is, or

Take those numbers to ..I forgot what website its called...

anyone?

Re: what motor is this?

Could have been worse......most people see a TPI engine and automatically think it's a Vette motor. At least he did clam it was one of those. And again, he may not know. Or he just took you for a sucker........I'd definatly have that "Little chat"

Re: what motor is this?

The TPI stuff interchanges between 350 and 305...only difference is the injector size. Careful with heads and TPI...the manifold has a specific angle that will only work with 87+ GM heads or aftermarket heads designed to work with this manifold. Also, do you NEED a 350? The 305 TPI will be leaps and bounds more powerful than the TBI. The 305 puts out fine power for a daily driver, but if you want to start eating mustangs and such, than yes, you'll need to step up to more displacement.

There is more than one base out there, since TPI came out in 1987 and was used on the aluminum head vettes with the normal old small block angle.

Re: what motor is this?

Right as usual Fast. I was assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that its an 87+ manifold due to the fact that the block is coded for 88+ as per Street Lethals post. Btw, love the work you've done and posted here and on the fullsizechevy board. Its excellent stuff.

Re: what motor is this?

ASSuming the engine hasn't been pulled:

8th digit of the vin for;
350 = 8
305 = F

FWIW, that doesn't look like it could be a 7. But who knows. The only definite way is to pop a head.
