My TPS sensor doesn't respond... even if unplugged.. is that bad ?

I remember a time when my TPS sensor would cause my car to bog and die if I pushed down on its lever while the car was idle. I don't know what changed, but now I can pull it down and even unplug it and the car does not flinch.

This caught my attention because I was trying to find out why my idle was so high even after adjusting the resting position of the throttle (that screw on the right side of the throttle body that the throttle rests on) . It is set so high that I essentially lose first gear. That may not be a related issue, but I am still curious about the TPS. I have ordered new one that will be here today that I will be trying out. Can someone shed some light on this, and point me in the right direction with links to other threads that might help. Thanks in advance.

do a search or look in the tech articles on how ot adjust the TPS. You should also make sure it is getting 5 volts, and the adjustment procedure will tell you how to check the voltage going back to the ECM from the sensor. It would seem likely that the ECM would set a TPS code if it was not working at all. Is your check engine light on? Does it come on when you turn on the ignition?

You should never turn the idle adjustment screw unless you've done heavy mods. No matter where you turn it, the IAC will always move around and make the car idle at whatever is called out in the chip. If you have a high idle like that I'm guessing you have a vaccum leak.

I've done some pretty heavy mods to the vehicle including
- lingenfelter stage 2 cam
- B&M 2400 stall torque converter
- headers
- Roller rocker
- port heads
- roller timing chain
- MSD 6al ignition
- Accel coil
other mods that i've forgotten

My SES light is not connected currently, so I am unsure about its read out. currently.
