Difference on MAF sensors?

I am about to buy a new MAF sensor on my 87 Camaro.

I have just finished a swap from carburettor to TPI and everything seems to be working except the MAF sensor..

I have been looking on difference MAF sensors..
What is the difference on the MAF sensor from 86-87 and from 88-89?
There are do different sensors on Ebay at those models:

88-89

86-87

As you can see the price is very different from each other...
Is there any difference?..that is my main question.

And I have another question. Are the remanufactured MAF sensors any good choise?..They are a lot cheaper, and when shipping and all of the taxes are paid they are also affordable for me to get to Norway.

Any help appreciated...Thanks..

I have used the 86-87 maf with 89 chips and could see no difference.

There is a place that will rebuild for about $80.00 USD but I am not sure about all the shipping.

A question, Will it start and run with the Maf disconnected?

Thanks for that list of MAF sensor serial numbers...Since I have a wiring harness and ECM and prom for a 1988 Car I guess I have to check for MAF sensor of that year. Car is originally a 87 model so the Engine itself is 1987 model.

I have found a remanufactured MAF sensor from Standard motor products. Wouldn't that be a good enough sensor??...

I was thinking of this part:

MAF sensor

And by the way. The car starts with the MAF sensor disconnected...It starts both in cold and warm start ups, but if I start at cold I need to push the throttle a little bit or else it will stall... When engine is hot the car idles roughly but runs ok with the sensor disconnected.

Re: Difference on MAF sensors?

Does it seem to improve with MAF disconnected or not?

The reason I ask is, if the Maf is bad, things will improve will not be perfect, but should show a big change to the better.

You can even tune the default tables to make them "perfect".

One thing to remember is as you tune the MAF tables, you are calibrating the tables to one specific MAF sensor and when you swap, you lose that "perfection".

Other wise you have other issues. Connectors, wires, and the relays can also cause issues.

If you find no change with the "new" MAF, keep the old one as a spare, it is a quick check when trouble comes.

I have bought other produces from rock and they seemed okay, they have a real good return policy, 30 days. Read up on the return conditions, they are very reasonable.

The MAF could be a BWD (Borg/Warner) brand, look up SMP corp for more info. I got a new BWD off ebay for $125 and it is great. The guy had bought it and that wasn't his issue, then sold the car and extra MAF when the baby came.

I was trying to determine if the MF4712 was a thin film or wire, the pictures didn't show. Some people have had issues with the film type (wells or micro tech).

I have gotten 2 rebuilds from AZ (Cardone I think) and they were junk, the first one was grs/sec limited max at 183 and the second one died at 6 blocks away from the store from a heat related problem.
