wrong engine issues

hey all.. i'm dealing with a repair shop switcheroo in my gta. previous owners popped the original L98 and had insurance take care of it. Just found out today that they got screwed and were given an inferior short block. I have the 14102193 heads and i assume the crappier cam.

my question is this: is it cheaper to have a shop machine these heads for better flow, valve job, port, polish, etc... or just pick up a set of cheap patriot or similar head off ebay? i don't know much about the heads i have only that they don't flow or work as well as the 083 heads i'm supposed to have.

i'm open to any suggestions.. what would you do in this situation if you didn't have alot of money and want to see some significant gains?

thanks all

Re: wrong engine issues

Depends, what are you planning to accomplish and what do you want to spend? I'd say if you are going to pull the heads, may as well get some decent ones to replace whats there rather than try to make them perform as well as something else is unported.

Re: wrong engine issues

basically, i've installed a bunch of things hoping i would see an improvement in performance (ported edelbrock runners, base, siamesed and ported plenum, bosche type 3 injectors, 1.6 roller rockers, etc) and havn't seen half of what i expected which was what made me suspect the heads and cam as the culprit. i want to see the 13s... stock this car was supposed to be in the 14s and right now with all those modifications i'm in the high 15s.
