Trying to get my L98 to run

Well I bought the camaro a couple of weeks ago.

Motorvation custom chip
TPI Vortech supercharger
BBK Throttle Body
headers/exhaust

Other then that, the engine looks stock.
No matter what I do, I cant get it to start. It has been sitting for a few years. The spark plugs look good, I changed the gas/fuel filter, oil, the EGR valve, cap/rotor and coil and the thermostat. I cleaned off the IAC. I triple checked the firing order also.
At most, itll just fart for a couple seconds, then die.
It has a fuel pressure gauge and it sits at around 45 or 46psi.

I was thinking about getting a new IAC and either getting new injectors or sending the stock ones out to get cleaned.

Does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

If you have confirmed spark and fuel pressure, and you have stock injectors i would guess they are fused solid or full of congealed gas by now. call jon at FIC (fuel injector connection)... he can hook you up with replacements or rebuild yours.

I would try a fresh set of plugs. The insulators may have collected moisture while sitting.

I'm looking at both those sets as well from referal here to that site. I'll probably get a 24lbs set.

The things that attract me to the 22# are, direct fit and cheaper price.
Im leaning towards the 22# ones.

Re: Trying to get my L98 to run

seriously.. call them. tell jon what you have, and he will set you up with exactly what injectors you need. he's very friendly and highly experienced.

in addition... i'm thinking you are going to need more than stock injector size (22lb) as you are running a supercharger. thats something he would also be able to help you with.

Maybe, but it sounds like you're saying "buy Jon's injectors first, then continue troubleshooting if it doesn't fix it".

If injectors are really suspected then that's a fairly simple test of pulling the rail and turning over the engine to see if fuel comes out.
The rail would have to be pulled for an injector swap anyway.

Re: Trying to get my L98 to run

i guess i'm just going by experience... leaving injectors (expecially stock ones) dry for a few years will cause them to corrode and start to lose functionality. hell, my car sat for a little over 1 year and while my injectors worked, and they passed the visual test (taking them out of the intake, kicking the car over) my car still ran like crap. finally broke down and swapped injectors and i was golden. the coils might be fine, the injector might not leak... they might even kinda work (like mine did). but i'm pretty confident that he will have drivability issues if he keeps those old injectors.

also keep in mind i'm assuming he's tested to confirm spark in his plugs, and voltage at the injectors. if he has spark, and he has fuel pressure, and a known previously running car won't stay running... to me that says injectors.

and i suggest jon because he gave me a good price and a bitchin product. i don't care if he buys from jon, summit, jegs, whatever. just tryin to help a dude get his ride working

I havent checked if fuel was coming out of the injectors. Thanks for the tip. I guess before I place my order, ill pull the rails and crank her a few times.
Thanks!
If there no good, I guess ill go ahead and order some injectors.

Be careful of the fuel & ignition, and keep a fire extinguisher handy.

Re: Trying to get my L98 to run

If your running a TPI intake, 37* total timing works great, or 16-17* base timing, try it out and see what you think.

Yeh, it has the stock tpi intake. The timing tab isent stock and only goes up to 8 degrees advance isent stock 6? Ill probably set it at 8 advance, I wouldent want to get any knock when the boost kicks in.

Re: Trying to get my L98 to run

well since you are running a supercharger start with 6-8, then try running a little more, how much boosy are you running? Because for every lb of boost, you should retard the timing usually 2*, some run 1 though.

Re: Trying to get my L98 to run

I set it at 4, after that it runs poopy and stalls at idle. It seems to like 0 to 4 degree range.

that hurts your power, run more timing, and experiment with it.

Yeh, more timing it wouldent idle unless you held the gas down with your foot. I think the balancer or timing tab might be off though. I have a digital timing light and it said the timing was at 12 degrees and the tab says its at 4...... so ionno, lol.
