Do I need a year specific motor for my 90 GTA roller

I just picked up a 90 GTA roller. Now, I am looking for an engine, transmission, exhaust and interior. The stock motor (VIN also confirms) was 305 but it was replaced with a 350.

I am by no means an expert on these cars but I understand that the TPI intakes (manifold, plenum, fuel rails, throttle body, runners) are exactly the same between 305 and 350 but I would need to change Knock Sensor, ESC Module, ECM, and PROM. Would it matter what model year are the motor and trans. from? According to the article below, a 350 motor for 1987-89 would be different than a 350 motor from 1990-92.

I guess I am trying to ask that what year 350 TPI motor and transmission can be installed in this bird. Also, how different would a Camaro 350 motor be for my GTA?

Thanks

what year computer do you have now, and did the previous owner have the chip modified for the 350?

thunder85,

Thanks for a reply but I am assuming it still has the original computer. Unfortunately, the previous owner had bought it as a roller himself so I am not sure if he made any changes. How would I know about the computer and chip?

That only pertains to it being a MAF TPI or a SD TPI.

Pull the computer out from under the dash. Look at the part number on it. Open up the little door on it. Look at the numbers on the memcal.

All of those numbers tell us what computer and programming you currently have installed.

Pull the computer and look at it, if it has only 2 plugs it is maf, if it has 3 it is sd. But I believe the 90 and up years were all sd.
