Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

I'm in Europe ( Holland), so no Autozones, PEP Boys, Advance or whatever.
Two months ago we were on vacation in Florida, wish I had known about the bad Granatelli back home in the box...I would have bought a remanufactured one at one of the places you mentioned.
BTW, it is possible to buy directly from Bosch overhere, but the Bosch MAF is about $1500.....!!!!!
Any onlineshops I might look for a good MAF ?

Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

Well, Autozone unfortunately doesn't deliver outside the US....
Anyway, they are really inexpensive with their remanufactured Cardone MAF, so I hope to come to the USA in a few years again, if Autozone still stock it, I will buy it.

Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

Could also try year one. Not much info on this MAF so you should call to get the details. All its says is its listed as GM MAF and it does not say its a re manufactured unit either so I have to guess its probably new. Go to year ones web site's camaro section and search for "GM mass air sensor for 1988-1989 305, 350 TPI (LB9, B2L)" part number ec229.

All you have to do to get more info about the MAF Sensor is open up the "INFO" and copy and paste hte part # into a new browser page. The part will come up with various pages or links that have the discription. By the way, why would you want to know the discription if you alrready know what it does? Not all MAF sensors that AZ, Pep Boys, Orielly's, Napa are not brand new, but rather rebuilt by Cardone or another company.

Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

Well theres the thing it gives no further info about the part. Simply its application and what it is (a MAF sensor) no picture or anything. Why would I want to know more info if I already know what it is? Well theres the thing I really dont know what it is as it does not elaborate. It does not specifically spell out that its new and I would want to confirm that as if it was just a rebuilt unit its not worth $400. Also even if it was new I do not know what type of MAF it is. I cannot say if its like the original hot wire style or thin film. I also cannot comment on what brand it? Is it an original Bosch unit or some cheap Chinese knock off? These are all things I would want to know before making a purchase of a MAF sensor. Also yes I am aware most MAFs for our cars are rebuilt units. The reason I mention it was because the OP wanted to see what he could do about getting a new Bosch part at a reasonable price or something good if not possible. Being that he was looking for a new reasonably priced part this seems like it would be something to look into.

Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

Lets just make this easy for everybody.

I really dont have time to be arguing about something that can easily be answered by hearing it from the Horses mouth. Sorry for getting off track Fire"Dutch"Bird. Dial this number or give them a call. They will help you with excellent service. I was gonna buy some struts for my IROC and they offered me some better and more reliable struts. They even told me to prime the struts before installing them to prevent premature failure. Now thats customer service.

Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

Yea I think you may have misunderstood me. I was not commenting on the rock auto MAF sensors. There they pretty much spell out what theyve got as they either say remanned outright or have a core charge (implying remanned) with the exception of the new bosch. Because there all remanned stock units or the new bosch that dosnt leave much to question they are all stock style MAFs. I was refering to the MAF sensor offered by Year One there is absolutely no info on the MAF they offer which would require a phone call to inquire about the details.

Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

No worries its easy to over look the details I know I do from time to time. But yea Year One really is disappointing with regards to how they handle third gens. Unlike for other more classic cars they dont have many good descriptions and pictures are hit or miss. They dont even have pictures for many things that really require a picture like decal sets ect. However they do have good stuff.

Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

Thanks for all the info.
Problem is, shippingcosts to my country are high, sometimes the price of a part doubles before I get it, I have to pay customs about 20% tax as well.
So I wait until I visit the USA again, and just take it with me in the plane.
BTW, I can get a Cardone reman. MAF overhere, costs.....about $600....!!
The same MAF Autozone is selling for $200.....!!

Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

There are enough junkyards, but only a few are specialized in American cars, and my car was never officially imported here ( because the US $ was expensive in the eighthies....!!), so Thirdgen secondhand parts are rare, I'm afraid.

Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

Another option for parts... if you are near a US military base, see if you can make friends with someone on base. Then those of us in the US could shop for you and ship it to a member of the US military thereby avoiding all customs charges when they give it to you over a beer somewhere off base.

Or ask on here if someone wants to buy it and ship it to you as a "used" part with minimal value...

Thanks, but the nearest US base would be Heidelberg I suppose, and that's about 600 mls away from where I live....

Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

Have you tried replacing the relays? Alot of times there is nothing wrong with the sensor itself but bad relays can throw codes 33 and 36.

My 89 was thowing both codes, replaced the relays and the codes went away.

Re: Mass Airflow Sensor

the quote from the aftermarket MAF raised some suspision to me.. they stated that the adjustment was to the frequency of the MAF output... This company makes lots of f-body MAF's, including for LT1's and LS1's, which, at least with the LT1's, are frequency modulated... Maybe yours (and other's) got the wrong set of internals or something...
