Would this cam do good in a 305? Going to be switching to HSR pretty soon and adding headers. I know i will have to tune the car also

Which valve springs would work?

Re: Lunati 50161

duration seems way too high for a 305 car and the setup your using and you can also go a lil higher on the lift too... i say its a bad match..

Re: Lunati 50161

i thought u couldnt go over .480 lift with stock heads

I talked to lunati, and they told me the best cam for me would be a 54743, he said i could use the 54761 but it wouldnt make any power until 2500rpm but would make more power up top though

Re: Lunati 50161

oh your running stock l89 heads... yeah that cam is way too much cam for the stockers... even tho the lift is ok the duration with those lb9 heads is whats going to kill your setup.. your heads will not support those rpms and even so you might have valve float if your running press in studs and stock springs and such.. im using stock modified iron l98 with screw in studs on my gm hotcam with 1.5 rockers its 218/228 492 492 lift.... my heads are really killing my setup and im leaving alot of horsepower on the table..... i didnt have the money to buy new heads but i will be fixing that soon with afr 180s.... maybe some other guys with hsr's will help because im running a highflow tpi..

Too much duration. Try again.

Re: Lunati 50161

im pretty sure mnorton has a nice idle... he has the crane 2032 cam... i used to have that cam in my old l98 setup also its a 214/220 452/465 lift 112lsa..... that is the max you can use without doin any work to your heads... here is a link of how my car sounded with that cam... you dont need a big crazy cam like the one you mentioned for it to sound nice or off idle....just curious, why would you want a hsr on a 305 anyways... the tpi on a 305 isnt the bottleneck at all....

and thats on a 350 so i imagine it should sound a bit more choppy with a 305.... that cam would be MUCH better with your goals... use 1.5 rockers with this cam... 1.6 rockers will cause issue with stock unmodded heads..

That sounds a lot better than mine, maybe i will go ahead with a cam swap. But im getting all the things i can use for a 350 when i get the cash to build the motor i want. But until then i just have to get more out of this motor, i spend a lot more time at higher rpms so i figured the HSR would do better than the TPI. Right now it pulls pretty good to 4800 drops a little but still pulls to 5500 but thats it.

Re: Lunati 50161

well with the hsr on a 305 your torque will go way down... and it will feel like a pig around town...... thats why i was wondering why u wanted to swap... just port the tpi or get big tube runners and edelbrock lower intake.. trust me you will be much happier with that and the crane 2032 cam... that setup will get you to 5500 easy on a 305... then you can swap all that to a 350... i have a 355 tpi look at my mods.... my car is really really run to drive as an everyday driver...

Re: Lunati 50161

the part number is 104224...... thats right crane cams went out of business..so you have to look on ebay for one... its a great cam and its made for tpi cars... its considered the biggest cam for stock heads and computer... here is a new one on ebay which is a good price for it actually

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Crane...Q5fAccessories

i tried looking at online retailers and they no longer carry it cause they went out of business..

add that cam along with some slp runners and port plenum and stock intake with stocks heads cold air intake and maybe 22lbs injector and afpr and you will be very happy and a smile on your face when you hear the car idle.... it will make for a very fun daily driver that should easily rev to 5500 rpms.. im assuming thats your goal for the car... i see you already have some nice mods done already.....

Re: Lunati 50161

I had that crane compucam in my 88 IROC it had a 350 in it, the cam sounded very healthy and definitely woke the car up, with a stock TPI even. Had a TON of low end grunt.
