Help needed

I have 1962 Chevy Nova with a 88TPI, 383 Dart alum heads, Holley 58mm throttle body, 24lbs Accel injectors, and Harris chip adj regulator set to 45lbs with vacuum hose off comp cams XE262H cam. I run the timing at 6 degrees.

Lately its been hard starting and if the engine does not start first round you have to wait for a while. Then maybe it will start after some long cranking. once it starts its very unstable and you have to keep your foot on the accel. I've changed cap rotor wires, plugs, cleaned the IAC throttle body new fuel pump. Once its running it runs okay. I had Harris set the idle at 750 and now it wants to idle at 1000 but the ecm is callling for 750 I've checked the idle screw and backed of and no help. I've checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner none to be found. It really seems lean at start I've put a noid light on the injector connector and its flashing. What I'm thinking is I have a couple injectors bad and when the engine is cool enought for the 9th injector to come on it will start.

Any ideas.

Thanks Mitch

Re: Help needed

Did you check the actual fuel pressure? My truck gave me similar problems when the fuel pump was going. I know you said yours is new, but maybe your fpr is going on you. I would give that a check and make sure it does not drop during start, you would need a second person to check that for you. It may seem great at purge but start the fpr can drop pressure on you.

Re: Help needed

Here is a video of the fuel pressure. With the vacuum hose off that is about 43 lbs. Kind of hard to see the numbers on the gauge. 45 is about 3:00 on the gauge. What do you guys think. I pulled the plugs all clean put a bit more timing in it. Now at 10 degrees setup. Was at 6 degrees. Seems like with the vacuum hose it has a bit of a stumble If you notice the first hit of the throttle it stumbles.

Re: Help needed

Well, the car sounds good. As for the fuel issue, I am stumped and cannot honestly point out what is going on. I would guess you are having some sort of issue with the fpr, but that may not be all, if the fpr actually is defective. Maybe someone else has a better idea of what may be the issue. My truck was easy to spot because after troubleshooting for a couple of days the fuel pump simply died making the problem easy to find.
Any ideas guys?
