My Trans Am Occasionally dies when i am going down the road. I try to restart it and I dont hear the fuel pump coming on. But I let it sit for awhile and it fires right up any ideas Guys ??? I am thinking perhaps it is a clogged fuel filter. If you guys have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them.

A clogged fuel filter may prevent it from starting, but you would still hear the fuel pump priming up.

If you dont hear the fuel pump, i would check the fuel pump relay, replace it and see if that does anything.

or your fuel pump can be on its way out.....have fun dropping the rear and the tank to replace it.

 

Well i did the mod to the trunk to where I just open a door and pull the whole pick up assembly. I think I have it narrowed down to some broken vaccum lines.

 

forgive me for askin but how does a broken or leaking vacuum line affect whether or not the pump primes?? i'm also having this problem, but my pump is less than 2 months old and has about 200km on it and all the wiring from battery to pump is all in decent shape

 

Because the fuel pressure regulator relies on vaccum to open up, to get desired fuel pressure. I wasn't hearing my pump prime cause there was pressure at the regulator, so there was no need. I know it sound weird but I fixed the vacuum leaks and now no dying while driving. The particular line on my car was that hard vacuum line that runs in paralell with the hoses that run to the heater core.

 

oh yeah forgot about the FPR duh hehe, i'll check it out, hell its one if the few things i havent checked yet
