My brother has a 1987 z28 305 TPI with a T-5 tranny. The Engine is running very rich (exhaust smells like raw fuel and smokey). The engine wont idle below 1500 rpms, there is a slight but noticeable miss-fire, with random pops out the intake, and im getting like 6MPG. I have replaced the TPS sensor, Idle Air Control, ohms tested the injectors (all were either 16.2 or 16.3 ohms), checked for vacuum leaks, checked the MAF sensor, the O2 Sensor, ive replaced the plugs, Distributor cap, and rotor, the plug wires were good and the boots were snaped on correctly. I've got the service manual, but im running out of ideas. I've read that the Coolant Temperature Sensor could cause the computer to run rich. I dont know if thats the problem? Does anyone have an idea what could cause it to still run rich? Ive bypassed the EGR valve, would that cause it too run rich? I'm lost, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
