What Upgrade Next?

I've recently won a scratch off lottery and in addition to my car fund I have about 900 bucks saved up. I have an 86 Trans Am with the 305, automatic with TCI slapshift full manual valve body, no cat, flowmaster muffler, and a custom CAI. I was thinking either a set of good headers, (2055 hooker comp shorty headers) or maybe upgrading my rear. I wanted to go with a different ratio than my 2.77, but apparently I need to upgrade the carrier and it would probably be easier to get rid of my 9 bolt and get something else. What do you guys think would be more worth it? Anything else out there that would be a better idea? I plan on building the car, but it's also my daily driver so increased MPG is always a plus. Any idea how many extra horses I'd get with the 2055s with my current setup? Thanks.

Rear end swap ($200+/-) and a nice stall with a shift kit. Feel like a whole other beast.

Re: What Upgrade Next?

i read somewere on here a while ago that made sense, start from the bottom and work your way up, then start at the back and work your way forward. ie, make sure your suspention is set up, get some sub-frame connecters, better shocks etc. then sort your rear end out, gearing, lsd, alu prop, shift kit, stall. THEN start on the motor! i cant remember who said it but i followed their advice! all depends why you want more hp really. are you mainly drag racing it and want to drop your times? then sort your suspension first! or are you mainly driving it on the street?

i'd say 5 speed swap (i only drive manuals) but thats personal taste but best bang for your buck scrap the 2.77 look for a rear out of a g92 car its 3.42 posi and disk rear i get about 22 mpg high way so its pretty good or just buy some good gears 3.73 if u drive city barely any highway
