Best books

Hey guys I'm 17 and looking to rebuild my 305 TPI this winter. I was hoping some of you guys could point me in the direction of some good books (going on my Christmas list). I want one for rebuilding the 305, and another one for TPI engines. Or if any books are total crap that would help to.

Thanks
Chris

Re: Best books

The best books are the factory service manuals. Helm prints them for the factory. They run around a hundred bucks though..... These will be extremely useful.

I agree on the helms manual. Has everything for your car to remove/replace items, engine error code diagnosis, drivetrain, transmission and engine repair. It's like a Chilton or Haynes manual but a lot more thorough. Helms manual for my 92 was $120 while I think earlier years are cheaper.

Many of the engine overhaul books are cheaply priced on amazon vs in store like Barnes & Nobles. David Vizard is a great writer of small block chevy engine books. The one below by him is a little dated but still has lots of good info especially for showing old tried and true tips.

I like this one since it breaks down rebuild process by numbered steps! It even comes with a two hour dvd showing rebuild.
