What will happen?

We just picked up a 1991 Camaro Z28 that is in need of some work. One of the first things to do is build an engine. It is currently a 305 TPI and it has seen its better days. My plan is to find a late model 350 and go from there. Doing some searching here, I've found all kinds fo references to different intake manifolds, fuel injectors, and what not. I can figure out a good combo for myself. My question is, what will happen when we put together this 350 with a nice hydraulic roller cam, the Weiand Street Ram intake, and bigger injectors, and plug it all into the stock computer? Will it even fire? Will it fire and run poorly?

The cam I like most at this point is a Lunati 54755 with the following specs:
  • Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 268/276
  • Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 215/218
  • Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .489/.503
  • LSA/ICL: 115/111
  • Valve Lash (Int/Exh):Hyd/Hyd
  • RPM Range:1500-5750
We will most likely be going with some type of aftermarket head with 2.02/1.60 valves in a 9:1 to 10:1 compression configuration.

Will there need to PROM tuning to get this to run, or will the stock computer work well enough to fire this and get it running?

It should fire and run.
However, in order for you to get out of the car what you're putting in.....you'll need a custom chip.

Re: What will happen?

Thanks for the info! I just wanted to make sure that it will fire and run enough to get it to the dyno and get the chip programmed correctly. Sounds like it will based on what you guys have said here.

I have been reading all about custom programming of the PROMs, and procedure wise it sounds pretty straight forward. I will probably have my engine guy there to make the necessary changes in the software as I don't think I'm up for that just yet.

Jack: 13.2 in one of these tanks sounds like a good accomplishment! What set up are you running? Did you do your chip, or have someone else do it?

i was going to say look at my sig but it hasnt come up! its a 350 tpi with edelbrock alu performer heads, crane cams cam, (cant remember the specs) 52mm tb, slp siamessed runners, (and stock intake!?!) headman headers, de-cat borla straight through exhust, 3;73 gears, and re-built 700r4. ive ran an 11.7 with 150 shot ot gas @ 118mph. i had a company burn the chip for me, you have to tell them EVERYTHING about your car, even the hieght of the tires!! they're called motorvation. i havent raced for a while now, but since my last time out ive added a ram-air hood and air box, and i have an edelbrock intake on the way!!
