Yep, do full exhaust/headers, bolt on TPI stuff-- larger base/runners, 1.6 rockers, and good tune and its at or over 300hp

You can do that for way less than 2000 bucks

ecm, need to do a chip burn. Wont really need it, the car will run fine without it, but could pick up 10-15whp in a simple tune with timing adjustments in the mid range and dialing in the air fuel ratio with the new exhaust stuff.

Can get mail order for like 250 or take it to some place. You can get the equipment you need to do it yourself for around 200-250 depending on what you get, then you can burn as much as you want. Its not all that hard to learn, especially with MAF

if you are going to run approx 300hp you are going to need 24lb injectors.

Yeah get a set of new 24lb injectors. I think stocker 22 lbs will do the 300hp but anymore than that, i'd get 24's.

24 over 22? That hardly seems worth the effort.

Re: can i get 300+ horses from my 89 5.7 corvette motor

It is in that you are getting fresh set of injectors with a more efficient spray pattern, but that depends on the injector design. Some spray patterns are more efficient than others

If the motor has good condition 22 lb injectors, by all means use them. If the power goes up to 350hp, then 24s would be better suited. But to get 350hp you will need a cam.

I had some of my stock injectors go bad at 150k miles and i believe they were all original by this point. But they can fail at anytime. its not a bad idea to replace them while everything is out

If you are going to go with the 22lb injectors, then you should definitely get yourself a set of the bosch design lll's, 4 spray better fuel atomization, improved overall performance.

Not going to get 350 Hp without opening engine up

My old setup
'89 Vette engine ( better "113" heads than your "128" ones )
Siamized base , SLP big tubes , fully ported plenum , ZZ4 cam, 1.5 roller rockers ,LT's with no cat ;retuned using stock injectors
310Hp

Re: can i get 300+ horses from my 89 5.7 corvette motor

I see you are in San Mateo, Ca. You will need to plumb a Vette style egr to get your car to pass smog. The Vette aluminum heads don't have egr passages, so G.M. put a tube in for Vettes that goes from the exhaust directly to the intake. The steel L98 heads have a passage cast into the heads to route the exhaust for egr through the heads to the intake.

Re: can i get 300+ horses from my 89 5.7 corvette motor

You might get away with the 22s if you install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (AFPR). These AFPRs install onto the fuel rail in the engine bay, and are an easy way to do some fine tuning. The factory fuel presure should be around 43.5 psi. I have run my injectors as high as 54 psi. A 22#/hr injector at 54 psi will flow about 24.5#/hr. No matter if you go with the 22s or step up to 24s, I would always install an AFPR. They are not very expensive.

Re: can i get 300+ horses from my 89 5.7 corvette motor

I would run the 24# for sure. Also, a quick chip tune wouldn't hurt, you can get decent power from a chip burn. PCMforLESS.com does excellent work and is inexpensive. The motor will run great without a tune, but that little extra power helps. I agree with above on rest. Headers, runners, bigger intake, 1.6 rockers, probably a good muffler as well. Should not be hard to hit 300hp.
