DIY tpi runner mod
I started a strange little project a while back and never got around to finishin it. Im considering starting up on it again but thought id see if anyone thought it was worth the effort/ time. Idea is to cut the "middle" out of some runners and weld a flat plate in where the middle was to kinda "siamese" the stock runner all the way down makin a big oval runner instead of 2 little round ones. In my head it will have effectively shorter runners and more plenum volume which would make for more hp and a higher powerband. Think it will show any performance gains ? Will it be worth the 50 bucks in supplies to finish it? Is there something else i can do to get the results i want besides super expensive aftermarket parts?

Has been done before.
Recall results were good with other intake mods but lots of work because thin wall factory runners distorted alot with the heat

Its called "siamesed runners" & nothing new. Done all the time & opens up the upper RPM power range.

Re: DIY tpi runner mod
ive never seen that before, but i imagine it would help a lot, but the problem is that now your baseplate is going to be your major restriction, especially the stock one.
apparently the vortec one flows a lot better so you might consider swapping to that

I plan on major baseplate and and plenem porting and possibly a bigger throttle body to take advantage of the extra airflow. I searched alot and never found anything close. So is its basicaly the same as siamesed slp runner ?

Re: DIY tpi runner mod
the SLP runner is only siamesed for the first inch or so IIRC so you will have it significantly beat

Re: DIY tpi runner mod
I am doing this right now. I intend to have the runners flowed, a stock base that is ported and siamesed about two inches in flowed as well. I also have a set of SLP's that are completely siamesed on a side and will have them flowed as well. I have a feeling that for the effort this may be a seriously underated mod.
