Different heads?

I ran a pair of 91' 350 truck heads off of a 1500 pick up on my L98 short block because I was cheap. They seemed to work. I am going to take the heads off due to a gasket or cracked head. My question is...... can I or should I run with the aluminum l98 heads, 305HO or double hump? I dont know the prices of these parts just yet.. but I know someone who can get me any pair of these heads. Thank you!!

Re: Different heads?

If you can get the l98 aluminum heads cheap enough that would be a good choice.

I think you have to have them machined before they flow really well, but generally speaking the aluminum L98 heads are decent.

Re: Different heads?

I agree.. I would def agree going to stock on a stock motor is the way to go.. What should a used pair of l98 heads run? How about a rebuilt pair? If they are not cheap enough, then what? When a get any pair of heads.... I should probably have them pressure checked and rebuilt even if they say the heads are rebuilt? or what should I look for? thanx for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd have them checked by a machine shop. I'd go from there.

Re: Different heads?

the consensus seems to be that for a little more than the price of getting stock heads re-worked, ported, and checked over again, you can have a much better set of aftermarket heads that will flow the pants off your stock heads.
its your money

That's probably true. Though I have no idea what L98 heads go for. I've never looked at them. I've been looking for after market heads knowing that they were better out of the box. For my engine build for my car, performance is more of a concern than price. So I never entertained the idea of buying used heads myself.
