Need help 86 305 tpi

I have a 305 TPI that I want to pep up. I live in CA so it has to pass smog; it is also my everyday driver. Bottom end is a fresh roller block I’m thinking of porting matching and polishing stock heads wondering what cam/rockers to use (LT1 or Vortec with 1.6 rocker?), and any other small improvements. Any help is great, Thanks.

Re: Need help 86 305 tpi

While the heads are still off, set up some decent springs good for about 0.525 lifts. Consider a factory-like EFI friendly roller similar to the LT1 F-Car cam, or perhaps with just a bit more ramp. Keep the duration short enough to prevent a lot of overlap and the 305 should like it. I'd suggest getting all the lift at the lobe if possible and avoid higher ratio rockers for now. You can always experiment later.

Re: Need help 86 305 tpi

Thanks I read the article about TPI’s and decided I would go with an aftermarket manifold and the Vortec heads I am thinking of using the Vortec cam 191* intake and 196* exhaust .5 lift and just stock rockers like you say, those are a lot easier to swap then a cam… I don’t know what kind of numbers the LT! cam has so if anyone can let me know about the lift and duration that would be great. Thanks again!

Re: Need help 86 305 tpi

Like I said I decided on Vortec heads, I’m wondering if anyone has heard of scoggin-dickey TPI manifolds they seem comparable to the Edelbrock ones, just wanted to see if anyone has hared of them… here is the address http://www.sdpc2000.com/details/scoggin-dickey-parts-center/sd3816, I’m still wondering about cams, does anyone know the specs for stock TPI cams and LT1 cams?
